GEORGE TOWN – A video of a wild saltwater crocodile swimming in waters off Penang Port in Butterworth has been swiftly making the rounds on social media.
A police report was also lodged by a witness.
The reptile's presence has caused a stir, particularly among netizens in Penang, where the state folk have been throughly preoccupied with the impending discontinuation of its iconic ferry services this Friday.
Mechanic Muhammad Noor Tadaros Rorali had reportedly sighted the creature at 6.40pm on Christmas Eve near the fishermen jetty in Pantai Bersih, Bagan Ajam, two nautical miles from the Sultan Abdul Halim ferry terminal in Butterworth.
The 32-year-old said he felt compelled to lodge a police report on the grounds of public safety.
Butterworth OCPD Noorzainy Mohd Noor, who confirmed the report, said the police will monitor the situation and have summoned wildlife rangers to be on the lookout.
Noorzainy also urged those who sight the reptile to call the police or Wildlife and Parks Department.
