THE Ministry of Communications has affirmed that programmes such as the National Month celebrations and the Jalur Gemilang campaign are highly effective in promoting love of country among Malaysians of all ethnicities and religions.
Responding to a parliamentary question by Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (Dungun), Minster Datuk Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that a study of 5,044 respondents from diverse backgrounds found a 91% effectiveness rate, with a mean score of 4.55.
“The overall analysis indicates that programmes organised for National Day and Malaysia Day not only raise awareness of nationhood and patriotism, but also instil pride and affection for the country across all layers of society,” the minister said.
The National Day 2025 celebrations on 31 August attracted over 100,000 visitors, with many families camping overnight in Putrajaya’s Precincts 2 and 3 to participate.
The ministry emphasised that patriotism should extend beyond specific annual celebrations in August and September, and be nurtured continuously throughout society.
To this end, Fahmi said the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) has launched the “Patriotism Throughout the Year” initiative, promoting national pride through inclusive, ongoing activities.
Key initiatives include the Info on Wheels programme, which engages communities at district levels to convey messages on nationhood, unity, integrity and shared responsibility while gathering two-way feedback.
The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang initiative has been expanded beyond August convoys to include community activities such as clean-up campaigns, revitalisation of historic sites, and recognition of local contributors.
Schools, higher education institutions and youth communities are also targeted through patriotic programmes integrated into co-curricular activities, discussions on current issues, arts and heritage events, and volunteerism.
Additionally, patriotic digital content, including short videos, mini-documentaries, animations and creative social media posts, ensures that messages of nationhood reach all segments, particularly youth.
“The programmes held nationwide will continue to be enhanced as a vehicle for national unity through integrated communication approaches and broad public engagement,” the minister said, stressing that cultivating patriotism is an ongoing commitment. - November 6, 2025
