A FULL-BOARDING school teacher from Jempol pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Seremban on Friday to three charges of committing physical sexual assault against a 13-year-old male student last year.

The accused, Nazrulhisham Mahmud, 46, who also served as the school’s hostel warden, entered the plea before Judge Datin Surita Budin after the charges were read out.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly molested the victim, including touching parts of his body, at the warden’s rest room on 18 May and 12 June, and in the school’s rugby room on 25 May.

Nazrulhisham was charged with two offences under Section 14(a) and one under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi proposed bail of RM30,000 for each charge, with three additional conditions.

However, defence counsel Siti Nabila Hamzah pleaded for a lower bail amount, arguing that an excessive figure would be punitive.

“The accused has three young children and is caring for his elderly parents. Although he is not the main breadwinner, a high bail sum would severely affect his family’s welfare,” she said.

The court set bail at RM10,000 for each charge, with conditions requiring the accused to report to the nearest police station, refrain from contacting witnesses, and surrender his passport.

The case has been fixed for mention on 16 December for the submission of documents and medical reports. - November 7, 2025
