PARTI Amanah Negara’s Communications Director, Khalid Samad, has expressed disappointment over what he described as a growing “boo culture” among party delegates during debates at the Amanah National Convention on Sunday.
Addressing delegates at the Selangor Youth and Cultural Complex, Khalid called for decorum and moral integrity when speaking or debating at party events.
“The youth representative had only just arrived, and suddenly you ‘boo’ him. Who taught you that? What culture is this? If your suspicions are false, that becomes slander. So, when we speak, let us uphold noble conduct, even in the heat of political battle. In this convention, we must show good character,” he said.
The incident occurred earlier in the morning after three delegates demanded that a motion on the party’s leadership election be debated immediately, leading to tense scenes when Amanah Jerlun delegate Zaisham Shah Bhari was escorted out of the hall by party volunteers.
Khalid, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, clarified that no decision has yet been made regarding the party’s leadership election for 2026.
“There has been no meeting to discuss it yet. Why? Because we do not know when the general election will be held. Under the party’s constitution, the leadership has the power to decide on postponement. We will review the matter next year,” he said.
He explained that the motion to debate the party’s election was rejected as irrelevant, given that no official decision had been made.
“No one has decided to postpone, and no one has decided to proceed — not yet,” he added.
Earlier, Amanah Vice-President Datuk Mohd Hatta Ramli told the media that the motion on party elections would not be debated at this year’s convention, describing it as premature and inconsistent with the party’s constitution, which prohibits any decision being made before its proper time.
Khalid further reminded delegates to base their arguments on facts rather than assumptions or personal interests.
“How do you know someone’s intent? Saying, ‘He wants to propose this amendment for his own gain’ — who taught you to argue like that? That’s an argument without class,” he said. - November 9, 2025
