THE political legacy of former Sabah Chief Minister and current Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman, continues with another of his sons, Hazem Mubarak, announced as a candidate in the upcoming Sabah General Election.
Hazem, 43, who is also a Division Head in Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), will represent Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the Sungai Manila State Legislative Assembly seat.
The announcement makes him the second son of Tun Musa to contest in this year's state election, after his brother, Datuk Yamani Hafez, who was announced as the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate for the Sindumin state seat.
Hazem stressed that his position as the son of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri does not give him any advantage in his political struggle.
"I have been active in politics for a long time, but when I was appointed as a Gagasan Rakyat division head three years ago, I really went to the field.
"For the past three years, we have been trying to reach out to the people and listen to their problems," he said when.
Commenting on the involvement of his family members in politics, Hazem described it as part of their tradition.
"Indeed, many of my family members are involved in politics, but each has their own path and struggle," he said.
Tun Musa, before being appointed as the 11th Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, once led Sabah as Chief Minister for more than two decades.
Apart from his two sons who are contesting, the Membakut state seat candidate, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, is also his son-in-law. – November 12, 2025
