A FISHERMAN and his younger brother were brought before the Muar Sessions Court today after a female cousin revealed that she was the victim of sexual abuse by the duo in a store five years ago.

The two accused, now aged 18 and 25, pleaded not guilty after the charge was presented before Judge Mohd Khairi Haron.
The elder brother faces two charges while the younger three charges.

According to the first to fifth charges, the two brothers who worked as fishermen were charged with sexually assaulting their nine-year-old cousin at the time of the incident.

The offence was committed in a store and a room in a house in Tangkak, between the end of March and November to early December 2020.

The two brothers were charged under Section 14 (a) and (d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKKSTKK) 2017) which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping for each charge brought forward.

According to a report, the victim was taken to the store involved and the two accused told her to perform a lewd act. Not only that, the two accused also threatened to do something to the victim if she reported their actions to her parents.

However, the victim could not stand the pressure and revealed the incident before a report was made at the Sungai Mati Police Station, Tangkak.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Ameerah Allaudeen while the accused were not represented.

The court then allowed bail of RM8,000 for the elder brother and RM9,000 for the other with one surety.

In addition, the court set additional conditions for both to report to the nearest police station and not to disturb the victim and prosecution witnesses until the case is resolved.

The case will be mentioned again on February 24 for the appointment of a lawyer and the submission of documents. – December 8, 2025
