MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, has initiated legal proceedings against a social media user who accused him of being involved in immoral activities.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Mohd Na’im described the allegation as entirely fabricated, defamatory and malicious. He confirmed that his legal representatives, the firm Akberdin & Co, had issued a Notice of Demand to the individual responsible.
“The content published, as outlined in the notice from my lawyers, not only contains baseless accusations but also carries imputations capable of damaging my reputation, dignity and position as a member of the Malaysian Government,” he said.
Mohd Na’im stressed that such accusations undermine the integrity of the Religious Affairs portfolio he leads.
“This legal action is to uphold the truth, to protect my reputation and to stop the dissemination of slander that may mislead the public and erode confidence in the country’s religious institutions,” he added.
He emphasised that the civil suit is being pursued under his legal rights as a citizen and is not intended as a personal punishment.
“Its purpose is to ensure that the digital space is not misused to spread hatred, manipulate public perception or erode trust through false information,” he said.
Mohd Na’im noted that all further action would be handled by his legal team in accordance with existing laws, adding that he remained committed to respecting the legal process.
“I will continue to focus on the Malaysia Madani agenda, the strengthening of Islamic institutions and the welfare of the ummah throughout the country,” he said.
The controversy follows a police raid late last month on a Kuala Lumpur spa allegedly involved in illicit activities, during which 202 individuals — including 17 civil servants — were detained. - December 9, 2025
