POLICE have confirmed that the light aircraft which crashed near Tekah Airport in Taiping on Sunday was registered under the Malaysia Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF).
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the aircraft had been operated by a duly licensed pilot and trainee, both registered with the same federation at the time of the incident.
He added that all technical aspects of the investigation have been placed under the purview of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), given that the case involves a sports aviation aircraft.
“An initial report has already been submitted to CAAM. A detailed investigation into technical factors, possible engine failure or potential human error will be carried out by CAAM.
“Police are awaiting further updates from the authority,” he told reporters on Tuesday at the handing-over ceremony for the Tapah District Police Chief and the Tapah PERKEP chairperson at the Tapah Police Housing Complex.
At the ceremony, Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim assumed the role of District Police Chief, taking over from Johari, who has been transferred to the Nilai District Police Headquarters.
Noor Hisam also confirmed that the injured 46-year-old pilot and 40-year-old trainee remain warded at Taiping Hospital and are reported to be suffering from broken legs.
“I advise the public to refrain from speculation. Let CAAM complete its investigation before any conclusions are drawn,” he said.
Earlier reports said the microlight aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing after experiencing engine trouble, crashing in an open area near Tekah Airport and injuring both occupants. - December 9, 2025
