TECHNICAL professionals must remain central to Malaysia’s development agenda, particularly as the nation navigates an era of rapid technological transformation, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said on Wednesday.
“They carry a major responsibility in determining the direction of the nation’s future,” he said during the opening of the National Technical Professions Day (HPTN) 2025 at the Persada International Convention Centre.
Highlighting the ministry’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded technical professionals, Nanta emphasised the importance of competence, innovation, ethics, social awareness and integrity.
“These are the wholesome technical professionals we want for our nation,” he said.
The minister noted that the adoption of advanced technologies was reshaping the construction sector by enhancing safety, precision and productivity.
He underscored the scale of federal investment in Johor this year, totalling RM11.43 billion, with RM10.24 billion dedicated to pre-construction and construction projects and RM1.19 billion allocated for maintenance.
“These investments are about shaping a strong future for Johor and supporting continuous national growth,” he said.
Nanta also referenced discussions with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on November 26, which laid the groundwork for closer collaboration on infrastructure projects between the federal ministry and the state government under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).
The minister’s remarks underline the pivotal role technical professionals play not only in driving Malaysia’s infrastructural progress but also in ensuring that innovation, ethics and social responsibility remain integral to national development. - December 10, 2025
