PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has decided not to field candidates for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and the Lamag state by-elections in Sabah.

The decision was announced by its Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man when met by reporters after the Pahang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang today.

“Yesterday we held a PN meeting, I was present and we have decided not to field candidates for the by-election.

"However, we will continue to monitor the developments of the by-election and the candidates who will contest," he said.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission (EC) announced that it would hold a special meeting to deal with the Kinabatangan and Lamag state by-elections on December 16.

EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission had received official notification from the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, and the Speaker of the Sabah State Assembly, Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya, regarding the unexpected vacancies for the two seats following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Bung Moktar, 66, died in a hospital in Sabah at 1.46am, less than a week after being elected as the Lamag assemblyman for a second term.

In the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN) held on November 29, Bung Moktar, who was also the Sabah BN Chairman, successfully defended the Lamag DUN seat with a majority of 153 votes in a six-cornered contest. – December 10, 2025
