FORMER Senior Political Secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has said he fully respects the decision by Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Political Bureau to stand him down from his role as Chairman of the Melaka State Leadership Council.
Shamsul Iskandar said the decision was made in accordance with the party’s constitution and long-established traditions, stressing that it should be viewed within the framework of internal party governance.
He described the appointment of Hang Tuah Jaya Member of Parliament Adam Adli Abdul Halim as Acting Chairman of the Melaka State Leadership Council as a necessary step to ensure leadership continuity and the smooth functioning of the party at the state level.
“I will continue to focus on strengthening the party divisions and contributing to the overall strength of PKR in Melaka,” he said.
“I give my full support to brother Adam Adli in carrying out his trust as Acting Chairman of the Melaka State Leadership Council and believe that he is capable of leading well,” he added in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Sinar Harian reported that PKR’s Political Bureau had decided that Adam Adli, who was previously Deputy Chairman of the Melaka State Leadership Council, would assume the role of Acting Chairman with effect from 15 December 2025.
PKR Secretary-General Dr Fuziah Salleh said the decision followed the party’s move to temporarily relieve Shamsul Iskandar of his duties as Chairman of the Melaka State Leadership Council.
She added that Adam Adli would continue to discharge his responsibilities as Acting Chairman until further notice, as the party focuses on strengthening its organisational structure and mobilising its grassroots machinery.
According to Dr Fuziah, ensuring that PKR remains relevant and closely connected to the people of Melaka is a key priority, particularly with the party congress and the Melaka State Legislative Assembly election scheduled to take place in 2026.
In response, Shamsul Iskandar called on party leaders to remain united, mature and disciplined in facing current political challenges and what he described as relentless attacks aimed at undermining the leadership of the party president. - December 17, 2025
