MOHD Naim Kurniawan, son of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, has been announced as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kinabatangan Parliamentary by-election  to be held on January 24.

The matter was announced by Mohd Naim, who is also the Assistant Treasurer of UMNO Youth, through a post on his Facebook account.

"Thank you to BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the trust and confidence as the BN candidate for the Kinabatangan Parliamentary by-election," he wrote on Friday night.

Mohd Naim, who is also the eldest son of the former Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, expressed that the moment would have been more meaningful if his father had witnessed it.

“It would have been perfect if my father had witnessed this moment. However, Allah knows best.

“I will bear these condolences and congratulations together, and will fight for it with all my heart, strength and sincerity,” he said.

Previously, Sabah UMNO announced that four names had been listed to be submitted to Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO President, as candidates for the Kinabatangan Parliament and the Lamag State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

For the record, Bung Moktar, 66, breathed his last at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu on December 5 due to kidney and lung complications. – December 20, 2025
