KEDAH Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has rejected the position of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman despite his name being nominated to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who resigned.

Instead, Muhammad Sanusi suggested Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as a more suitable candidate to lead the coalition.

“I propose a more qualified candidate, Dr Ahmad Samsuri, who is the Menteri Besar of Terengganu.

“He is better than the previous chairman. There is no need to compare him to me,” he told Sinar Harian on Friday.

Muhyiddin, who is also the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), announced his resignation as PN Chairman effective last Thursday following the political crisis in Perlis.

Following this development, there was a push from PAS for the PN Chairmanship to be handed over to the party leadership.

Head of the Central PAS Ulema Council, Datuk Ahmad Yahaya also expressed his agreement with Muhammad Sanusi’s nomination as the chairman of the coalition.

Muhammad Sanusi stressed that Ahmad Samsuri’s advantages in formulating the party’s political strategy make him the most suitable candidate for the position.

“I am a general in the field, looking after the army. My job is at the grassroots.

“He manages the strategy and handles the ‘roadmap’,” he said. – January 2, 2026
