DATUK Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hinted at being prepared to form a partnership with Bersatu, which is currently seen to be in turmoil following the party's internal conflicts.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, however, explained that any decision on the matter would take into account the latest developments involving Bersatu and be finalised later.
"We will devise the appropriate strategy for that (the possibility of working with Bersatu).
"This will be taken into account if it really happens," said the Umno President as reported by Berita Harian.
Ahmad Zahid was asked if there was any talk of a proposed Umno/BN collaboration with Bersatu following the breakdown of the collaboration between the party led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin and PAS in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The breakdown in relations became increasingly clear after Muhyiddin resigned as PN Chairman on January 1.
Recently, Umno Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh invited Bersatu Supreme Council members and sacked party members to join Umno.
It was earlier reported that Bersatu had sacked several party leaders, including former Supreme Council member and Tasek Gelugor MP, Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, and, most recently, former Pahang PN Chairman and Indera Mahkota MP, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Last year, Bersatu also suspended the membership of several party leaders, including Machang MP, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, for one term.
The Bersatu Disciplinary Board took the action following the issue of affidavits linked to efforts to call for the resignation of President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – January 13, 2026
