THE move by the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and former Exco members has been strongly criticised by people in the state and also UMNO members themselves.
Checks on social media and with a number of UMNO members in the state revealed that many felt that the move against Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir was highly disrespectful and uncalled for.
Also, a senior UMNO member in Seremban questioned the whole motive behind the coup in the first place.
"Kenapa dia orang ni nak mati-mati tukar YDP? Mesti ada udang di sebalik batu," he said. (Why do they want to so badly change the YDP? There must be something more to it)
His sentiments were echoed by other UMNO members who spoke to The Vibes, who said they deemed the move a great disrespect to a man who is well liked and looked upon in the state.
"Everyone likes Tuanku Muhriz and even his children.
"Though they are royalty, they are all down to earth and easily approachable," they said.
They praised the move by Datuk Ir Abdul Aziz Abdullah, who quit as the Pinggiran Sri Baiduri UMNO branch head as he could no longer accept the way UMNO leaders in Negeri handled the dispute involving the state’s royal institution.
"We feel there will be others who will follow if this issue prolongs.
"It is one thing to fight politically, but why are they going after the royal institution?" they asked.
According to an UMNO member from Port Dickson, people in the state were upset because, since taking over the administration, UMNO has done nothing for the people and is instead going after the YDP.
Similar sentiments were shared on social media accounts as many threw their support behind Tuanku Muhriz.
According to one post, the civil service in Negeri Sembilan was strongly behind Tuanku Muhriz and would not support any move to remove him.
There were repeated calls to replace the MB and the state Exco, while others called for a dissolution of the state assembly and fresh polls to be held.
"Perhaps there should be an election for Negeri Sembilan and Melaka at the same time.
"What is the point of an administration that is obviously pursuing their personal interests rather than that of the rakyat," read another post.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim strongly objected to the actions of the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and former Exco members —describing the move as rude and uncivilised.
He said that while the Federal Government does not interfere in the affairs of the Malay Rulers, it is responsible for national security and institutional integrity, and for ensuring that all actions related to state governance are carried out in accordance with the Constitution and established regulations. - September 24, 2026
