THE Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has stressed that the act of disseminating, disclosing or displaying someone's personal information without permission is an illegal act and is unacceptable under any circumstances.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that his party has taken note of the Home Minister's statement regarding the dissemination of an individual's personal information on online platforms.
He said the personal information in question includes residential addresses, telephone numbers, personal identification numbers and family information.
"This act is known as doxing, and can be investigated under several existing legal provisions," he said in a statement earlier today.
According to him, investigations can be conducted in accordance with Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Section 130 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and Section 507E, 507F (1) or 507F (2) of the Penal Code.
Commenting further, Mohd Khalid stressed that the principle of personal data protection applies to all individuals regardless of background, views, or current situation.
He said that the matter cannot be used as an excuse for online retaliation, threats or harassment.
"In this regard, PDRM reminds the public not to be involved in any form of dissemination of personal information and to practice ethics and responsibility in the use of digital platforms.
"PDRM will not hesitate to take strict action against parties found to have violated relevant laws, in line with the principles of the rule of law and public safety," he said. – January 24, 2026
