THE government will announce toll discounts in conjunction with the Chinese New Year holiday to help reduce the cost of people's travel during the festive season.

Unity Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the decision was made at a Cabinet meeting today, and details will be announced by the Ministry of Works (KKR) in the near future.

Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, said the initiative aims to help people plan their journey home better in conjunction with the festive season.

"This initiative aims to reduce the cost of people's travel as well as help them decide on a good date or time to return to their hometowns in conjunction with the festive season.

"Full details, including vehicle classes and the amount of toll discounts, will be announced by the Ministry of Works in the near future," he said in a press conference today.
