A GRIEVING mother is appealing for the truth surrounding her son’s accident and for action to be taken against those involved.

Marcia Lau Cheng Li said her 17-year-old son was killed in an accident on Nov 13 last year while out to get some food.

He was also taking his SPM examinations at that time.

Jason Lee Jia Chen was riding his motorcycle along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway when he allegedly collided with a Rapid Penang stage bus.

It was alleged that he had swerved into the bus lane when the incident occurred.

Lee was a student from St Xavier's Institution. Family counsel RSN Rayer said the teenager was a top student and a good son who often helped his mother.

Rayer told a press conference that the family wants to know the outcome of the investigation, as there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Rayer called for the CCTV recordings of the incident to be released to the family to determine what actually transpired.

He also wants to make it a standard operating procedure that any driver involved in a road fatality must have their license suspended pending the outcome of the investigation or the legal process.

"Here, we understand that the driver continues to drive the bus when the license should be suspended."

Rayer said that he has written to two individuals regarding the case, including the Attorney-General's Chambers.

"We want to know whether the driver would be charged for reckless driving."

The investigation is carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

George Town district police head Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim was travelling from Gat Lebuh Macallum towards his home at Summer Place, Persiaran Karpal Singh during the 11 am incident.

The victim is believed to have changed lanes and collided with a bus travelling straight on the left lane near the flyover in front of the Mutiara Line LRT station construction site.

He said the victim died at the scene due to the impact of the crash. - February 6, 2026.
