SANITATION and thorough cleaning actions were carried out in school areas identified as at risk following the spread of the tuberculosis outbreak in the district.

This follows six students who tested positive as a result of close contact screening by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The chairman of the state Education and Information Committee, Aznan Tamin, said the District Health Office (PKD) had held an engagement session with the school management.

"So far, sanitation and thorough cleaning actions have been carried out in risky areas as an early preventive measure," he said in a statement today.

Aznan, who is also the Tanjung Surat State Assemblyman (ADUN), said that until now, there has been no order to close schools.

He also reminded all schools to always comply with the MOH's instructions and guidelines, and not to spread unverified information that could cause public concern.

Six students were confirmed to have tuberculosis as a result of close contact screening.

They consisted of four male and two female students from five different schools, namely three primary schools and two secondary schools.

Yesterday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad reportedly said that a tuberculosis cluster was recorded in Kota Tinggi with 33 positive cases detected as a result of screening of 804 close contacts starting from January 25 until yesterday.

Dzulkefly reportedly said that one death was reported in the cluster, but confirmed that it was not due to tuberculosis infection. – February 7, 2026
