POLICE confirmed that independent preacher Zamri Vinoth was arrested near a shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the matter in a statement, in addition to informing that several other individuals were also arrested.

“There are many other actions that need to be taken; I just want to confirm the arrest of Zamri Vinoth along with the others,” he said.

However, further details regarding the cause and basis of the arrest will be announced at a press conference later.

They had earlier planned a rally against so-called ‘illegal’ houses of worship at 9pm outside the Sogo department store in central Kuala Lumpur.

However, it failed to materialise after police said the rally had been blocked for security reasons.

Previously, the police warned the organisers and participants of the rally not to commit any provocations, including touching on the 3R issues, namely religion, race and the royal institution. – February 8, 2026
