MALAYSIA’S Cabinet has established a special task force to investigate fresh allegations involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, in a move described as part of the Government’s commitment to transparency and integrity.
The decision was reached during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi, who also serves as spokesperson for the Unity Government, announced that the task force would be led by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
“The Cabinet also discussed the issue concerning the MACC chief commissioner and the Cabinet decided that a special task force led by the Chief Secretary to the Government will investigate allegations raised.
“After investigations are completed, it will be tabled to the Cabinet for further action,” Fahmi said at his weekly post-Cabinet press conference on Friday.
The latest development follows renewed scrutiny over allegations concerning Azam Baki’s share ownership.
Fahmi stressed that the formation of the committee underscored the Government’s determination to uphold standards of accountability.
In a separate reminder, he cautioned the public against inflaming racial sensitivities in the course of discussing the matter.
“Any attempt to inflame racial sentiments will not be tolerated and the authorities will take action,” he said.
The findings of the special task force will be presented to the Cabinet before any further steps are taken. - February 13, 2026
