A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy was found burnt to death in an early-morning fire that tore through a double-storey terrace house in Taman Baiduri, Banting, in the district of Kuala Langat.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 4.42am, with a team from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene three minutes later.
Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the blaze involved a Class A terrace house measuring 20 by 75 square feet, which was 85 per cent destroyed.
“Based on the report from the Operations Commander, the fire involved a Class A terrace house measuring 20 x 75 square feet that was 85 per cent destroyed, and there were two victims trapped.
“The firefighting operation was brought under control at 5.05am and personnel immediately conducted a search,” he said.
At 6.09am, rescuers discovered the body of the six-year-old boy in an upstairs bedroom. He had been burnt to death.
A second victim, a man in his 30s, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by the Health Ministry for further treatment. His condition has yet to be confirmed.
Ahmad Mukhlis said 10 people were believed to have been inside the house at the time of the incident, with nine successfully rescued.
“The child was found burnt in a room on the upper floor of the house. A male victim in his 30s suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by the Health Ministry. The fire was fully extinguished at 7am,” he said.
The operation involved 10 personnel and two fire engines from the Banting station, assisted by the Teluk Panglima Garang Fire and Rescue Station.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are under way. - February 15, 2025
