A MAJOR smuggling attempt involving nearly RM1.9 million worth of unlicensed animal products was thwarted after seven containers were intercepted at the Container Freight Station 4 (CFS 4) in West Port Klang on Friday.
The operation, conducted by the Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) between 11 am and 2 pm, uncovered that all containers carried goods without valid import permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS).
Commander of AKPS Port Klang, Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, said the total seizure was valued at RM1,917,292.54, with a combined weight of 159,157.93 kilograms.
He detailed the haul, saying, “Seven containers were confiscated, including UHT milk from New Zealand worth RM136,820.96, frozen ducks from Ireland valued at RM964,989.13, and powdered milk from New Zealand with a value of RM815,482.45.”
The agency said the action was taken not only to prevent the risk of animal diseases entering the country but also to safeguard food safety and public health.
“Tough action will be taken against any party that fails to comply with existing laws, including bringing in animal products without valid import permits,” Nik Ezanee said.
He added, “AKPS will continue to strengthen control and enforcement at all entry points to ensure biosecurity, public welfare, and national sovereignty are always protected.”
