A MAN who was fined RM5,500 for injuring an elderly man in a viral video related to a Cheras-Hulu Langat Road accident two weeks ago was sentenced to four months in jail by the High Court today.

Saiful Adli Yusof, 52, was sentenced after Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin set aside the fine imposed by the Kajang Magistrate's Court on February 10.

During the sentencing review proceedings, Aslam stressed that Saiful's actions were clearly inappropriate and had serious consequences.

According to him, the court used Section 323 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) to recall this case.

"The fine decision by the Kajang Magistrate's Court is set aside, and you are sentenced to four months in jail for each charge.

"Both prison sentences will run concurrently starting today," he said.

On February 10, Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil sentenced Saiful Adli to a fine after Saiful pleaded guilty to two charges of wounding and threatening to kill Liew Khoon Foo, 70.

According to the first charge, the trader was charged with intentionally causing injury to Khoon Foo by punching and kicking the victim's face and body at Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat, Batu 9, Cheras, at 4.05 pm on February 8.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, if convicted.

For the second charge, the father of four is charged with criminally intimidating the victim by threatening to cause death at the same location and time.

The charge was under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment or a fine or both, if convicted.

During the proceedings, Khoon Foo read out a victim impact statement in Mandarin, stating that he was traumatised, afraid to leave the house and no longer dared to drive.

As a result of being beaten and kicked, he said, he had to receive six stitches on his tongue, making it difficult for him to eat.

"I had no intention to hit his car; maybe the age factor caused the incident to happen.

"I'm afraid he has a grudge and is looking for me again, so I'm appealing for him to be given the appropriate punishment," he said.

However, lawyer Muhammad Syakir Haznal, who represents Saiful, said his client did not rush directly towards the victim, but instead knocked on the vehicle door and discussed it first.

According to him, when charged in Kajang, his client pleaded guilty on the first day of proceedings and was subsequently fined heavily.

Meanwhile, Saiful, who was in the dock, admitted to losing his judgment after his Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle was hit.

"The incident caused my wife to lose hold of our three-day-old son.

"I honked, but he continued to drive, including running traffic lights," he said.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Shahrul Ekhsan Hasim said, based on the viral video recording, it showed Saiful acting cruelly by kicking, punching and pinning the victim to the car door.

"This country has laws; his actions are clearly those of a road bully, acting recklessly and in anger.

"I beg the court to impose a sentence that brings about repentance," he said.

Two weeks ago, a one-minute video went viral, showing a male suspect scolding and kicking an elderly person in the driver's side of the car.

Several individuals were trying to calm the suspect down and not continue to injure the victim. – February 25, 2026
