PROPOSED constitutional amendments to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to a maximum of 10 years and to separate the offices of Attorney General and Public Prosecutor dominate proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat today, as lawmakers take up the bills for their second reading.
According to the Order Paper published on the official Parliament website, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2026 are listed as the first and second items of business following Question Time.
The measures were previously tabled for first reading on 23 February by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said.
The proposed constitutional changes require the support of at least two-thirds of Members of Parliament — equivalent to 148 votes — in order to be passed.
During Question Time, Muhyiddin Yassin (PN–Pagoh) is set to ask the Finance Minister what steps the government is taking to ensure that the objectives of public financial management under the Public Finance Responsibility Act are clearly communicated and understood by the public.
Meanwhile, Chong Chieng Jen (PH–Stampin) will seek details on individual and corporate income tax collections, as well as Sales and Service Tax revenue for 2025, and the projected figures for 2026.
Also drawing attention is a question from Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PN–Rantau Panjang) to the Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation regarding improvements and funding allocations for climate change mitigation and flood management in high-risk areas affected by monsoon surges. - March 2, 2026
