POLICE have called in five witnesses to assist in investigations into the shooting of a Proton X70 driven by the Commander of the Border Control and Protection Agency at Bukit Kayu Hitam last Wednesday, as authorities widen their inquiry into the attack.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said all five individuals were closely connected to the case and are assisting investigators as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"Besides that, the police are also identifying whether there are any new suspects based on the statements of the suspects," he said when contacted today.
The shooting targeted a Proton X70 driven by the commander of the Border Control and Protection Agency at Bukit Kayu Hitam, a key entry point along the Malaysia–Thailand frontier.
Police yesterday confirmed the arrest of seven suspects, including a Thai woman, following the incident.
Adzli was reported as saying that six of those detained are local men, while the remaining suspect is a Thai national believed to be the wife of one of the male suspects.
All suspects, aged between 22 and 52, were detained during coordinated raids under Op Tutup conducted by the D9 Special Investigation Division of the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department.
Those arrested are residents of a housing area near the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex, a strategic border facility.
Adzli said the husband and wife were apprehended at the Padang Besar border checkpoint in Perlis at 12.30pm as they attempted to flee to a neighbouring country. - March 2, 2026
