AN elderly woman and her son were found dead in a house in Taman Sahabat Flats in Teluk Kumbar, Penang, on Tuesday night.
In the incident at about 8.17 pm, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received a call from the police to help open the door of a locked house, as it was believed that there was a victim inside.
Assistant Director of the Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division, John Sagun Francis, said a team of six members, including a supervisor, was deployed to the location which is about nine kilometres from the station.
"The police received a complaint from a neighbour who got a foul smell from the victim's house. Accordingly, the police contacted the fire department for assistance in opening the door of the house.
“The Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived at 8.32 pm and opened the door using special equipment together with the police.
“After the door was successfully opened, two victims were found in the living room and the bedroom, respectively,” he said in a statement.
He added that the victims were identified as Lee Tet Khim, 72, and Lam Tong Hoong, 39.
"Both were confirmed dead by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel who were also at the location.
"The bodies were then handed over to the police for further action," he said. – March 4, 2026
