THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced the expansion of its Cashless Society programme to Melaka, the Federal Territories, and Johor, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to digital transformation.
The announcement followed a high-level roundtable session in Cyberjaya, attended by representatives from federal and state agencies, industry stakeholders, and community groups.
Themed “Digital Trust and Community Empowerment,” the session provided a platform for strategic discussions on digital ecosystem priorities, including cybersecurity, digital literacy, consumer protection, and strengthening public confidence in cashless transactions.
“The roundtable is an important avenue to align objectives and expectations for Cashless Society Phase 4 in 2026, ensuring communities, including those in rural and remote areas, can navigate the digital landscape safely,” said an MCMC spokesperson. Seventy representatives from various organisations attended the session, which also involved NADI Managers and other key stakeholders.
Originally launched in 2023 at 28 National Digital Access Initiatives (NADI) locations, the Cashless Society initiative was designed to accelerate digital adoption at the grassroots level.
By 2025, the programme had expanded to 174 sites nationwide, reflecting MCMC’s ongoing dedication to building digitally empowered communities.
In 2025, the initiative incorporated enhanced internet security measures as part of the Safe Internet Campaign and strengthened community capacity through Train-the-Trainer programmes for NADI Managers.
The programme also focused on raising awareness of online risks and fraud in line with the Online Safety Act 2025.
Cashless payments serve as a gateway to broader digital services, with MCMC leveraging improved internet coverage and quality under the JENDELA plan to ensure optimal access and utilisation of digital technology.
Between 2023 and 2025, the programme engaged 62,574 visitors, facilitated 26,022 cashless transactions, onboarded 4,572 new digital merchants, and conducted 1,348 awareness activities across its four core pillars.
MCMC expressed its appreciation to strategic partners including Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Bank Simpanan Nasional, TNG Digital, Setel, TM Unifi, and NADI Managers for their continued commitment to advancing Malaysia’s cashless society agenda.
The roundtable also highlighted MCMC leadership recognising partner contributions, with Managing Director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali and Deputy Managing Director (Development) Eneng Faridah Iskandar pictured alongside partners and NADI Managers during the session in Cyberjaya.
