THE mother of a man who was hacked to death by three armed attackers in Bukit Kangkar has alleged that her son was deliberately lured into a trap before being killed.
The victim, identified as Tong Wei Sheng, 38, died after being attacked by three men wielding machetes near Sungai Mati in the district of Tangkak on Sunday evening.
His mother, who wished to be known only as Kim, 62, claimed the attackers had arranged a meeting with her son at a restaurant earlier that day.
“I feel they had already planned to do this (the murder). On the day of the incident, my son told the family he was going to the restaurant because he wanted to meet someone.
“When he met them, my son managed to reply to my message and told me, ‘Semua OK, tiada apa-apa berlaku’. Not long after that, I was shocked to receive a call saying my son had been injured.
“I never imagined that this meeting was a trap to end my son’s life. Our family will not remain silent,” she said when met by reporters.
Residents in the area said they heard a commotion shortly after the evening breaking of fast before discovering the victim lying seriously injured and covered in blood outside a house.
A 63-year-old resident, who declined to be named, said the victim was found lying on the ground in front of a residence with visible injuries on several parts of his body.
“The incident happened just a few minutes after the breaking of fast. We saw many people gathering around the injured man at the time.
“Members of the public began arriving and the victim was taken to hospital in a pickup truck,” he said.
Tong Wei Sheng was later pronounced dead upon arrival at Hospital Tangkak after suffering severe injuries to his hands, legs and back.
Following the incident, Roslan Mohd Talib, the district police chief of Tangkak, said authorities are actively searching for three suspects who fled the scene in a white sedan.
Roslan said the victim had been chased by the attackers near a restaurant before running towards a house in the Batu 9 area of Bukit Kangkar in an attempt to escape. - March 16, 2026
