BERSATU members have been urged to consider returning to Umno amid growing internal divisions within the party, as calls intensify for greater unity among Malay political forces.
UMNO veteran Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff said Bersatu is currently facing escalating internal challenges, including leadership disputes and fragmentation that have weakened the party’s cohesion.
He pointed to tensions involving Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, along with reports suggesting the possibility of forming a new political party.
“Continuous internal conflicts, leadership crises, and speculation over political alignment indicate that Bersatu is in a dynamic yet difficult position,” he said.
Mohd Yussof added that Bersatu’s political positioning, including perceived leanings towards Pakatan Harapan while remaining within Perikatan Nasional, has further complicated its stance.
He said Umno is now seeking to build a broader Malay political consensus to address pressing and sensitive issues affecting the community.
He also called on leaders from both sides to set aside past differences and prioritise unity.
“Forget past disputes and return to your roots. Umno leaders must also rise above personal and factional interests.
“Rebuild the trust of the Malay community by demonstrating unity and sincere goodwill, especially in conjunction with Aidilfitri, through forgiveness and stronger bonds among Malay political leaders,” he said. - March 24, 2026
