THE government has confirmed that two interconnected investigations remain ongoing before any conclusions can be announced regarding the shareholding of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki.
Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, spokesperson for the Unity Government, said today that the timeline for releasing the investigation outcomes cannot yet be disclosed,
“First, the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, must review the processes involved in reaching a decision. At the previous press conference, I already stated that I cannot announce any conclusions,” he explained.
He added that a second inquiry, initiated on Cabinet instructions, concerns allegations reported by an international media outlet that an individual named Victor Chin had allegedly exploited the MACC for corporate manipulation.
“So, it is a different investigation but it is connected. Both must be completed,” he said at the inauguration of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Digital Broadcasting Symposium today.
A special committee, led by the Chief Secretary, was earlier established to examine claims linked to Azam’s shareholdings, following Bloomberg reports suggesting he held millions of shares in a financial services firm.
Azam has asserted that his holdings, valued at approximately RM800,000, were acquired transparently and in full compliance with regulations.
Authorities are also probing broader allegations of a so-called “corporate mafia” involving enforcement agencies, highlighting the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing inquiries. - March 31, 2026
