A 29-YEAR-OLD trailer driver appeared in the Segamat Magistrate’s Court today facing three charges of murder after a road accident last Thursday claimed the lives of an entire family.
Muhamad Shafiq Salleh, who was single, nodded in understanding as the three charges were read before Magistrate Amalina Johar.
No plea was recorded, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He is accused of killing S Palamiandy, 77, K Myakrishnan, 72, and S Sevendai, 62. The alleged killings occurred at kilometre 212 of the Johor Bahru-Seremban Road at approximately 3.50pm on 2 April.
The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, with a maximum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur ‘Aina Muhammad Ismail Tadj, while the accused did not have legal representation.
During proceedings, the prosecution requested a new hearing date, citing outstanding reports including the post-mortem, medical, Puspakom vehicle inspection, forensic, and pathology reports. The court granted the request and did not offer bail. The case is scheduled to be called again on 21 May.
The fatal accident, which involved three vehicles near the Golden Hill T-junction in Gemas Baru, occurred around 4 p.m., approximately 200 metres from the victims’ home.
The family had been returning from a visit to relatives in Batu Anam when the collision occurred, resulting in the deaths of all three passengers. - April 7, 2026
