POLICE have confirmed that a suspended senior officer arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies in Kepong was previously attached to the federal police headquarters at Bukit Aman, raising fresh concerns over integrity within the force.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the suspect, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), had been serving with the Commercial Crime Investigation Department prior to his suspension on January 23, according to the New Straits Times.
“The suspect is believed to have played a central role in orchestrating the group’s operations, including planning and coordinating their movements,” he was quoted as saying.
The DSP is among six individuals detained, including two bodyguards, who are alleged to have been involved in multiple break-ins targeting expatriate residences in Kepong.
Police said the suspects, aged between 31 and 51, allegedly posed as law enforcement officers to gain access to homes, with one reportedly using a pistol-like object to intimidate victims during the robberies.
Investigators believe the syndicate made off with luxury vehicles, including a Toyota Alphard, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, along with a safe, RM24,200 in cash, US$1,200, jewellery and two gold bars, bringing total losses to more than RM4.4 million.
Authorities also found that the bodyguards involved had used legally licensed firearms during the incidents.
Fadil described the case as a serious breach of integrity within the police force, stressing that such conduct undermines public trust and violates core policing duties.
He added that investigations are ongoing and warned that firm action will be taken regardless of rank or position within the service. - April 10, 2026
