A 48-YEAR-OLD woman with disabilities was killed while her 71-year-old mother sustained injuries after a fire engulfed a two-storey house in Bagan Tiang in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at about 2.34am before a team from the Parit Buntar Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.

The blaze involved a Class B two-storey residential property and destroyed approximately 70 per cent of the structure. A Proton Iriz vehicle parked at the premises was also about 70 per cent destroyed in the fire.

Firefighting operations were assisted by personnel from the Kuala Kurau Fire and Rescue Station and the Parit Buntar Volunteer Fire Brigade, involving a total of 17 firefighters and one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) unit.

Authorities said the fire was brought under control at 3.00am before being fully extinguished at 6.25am after several hours of continuous operations.

The victim, a 48-year-old woman with disabilities, was found burnt inside the house, while her elderly mother suffered injuries to both soles of her feet. She was later handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia for further treatment.

The operation was overseen by senior JBPM officers, including zone operation personnel, with monitoring support from the state fire department office.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the total extent of the losses. - May 13, 2026
