POLICE in Kulai have apprehended a mobile phone repair technician who allegedly extorted a 17-year-old girl into committing indecent acts by threatening to release her private photographs.

The arrest of the 24-year-old suspect was confirmed by Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman, who declined to elaborate further due to ongoing investigations.

The victim, identified only as Sha, revealed that she first encountered the suspect when she took her mobile phone to a repair shop in Bandar Dato Onn on April 13. The suspect subsequently contacted her via text message to invite her out.

“The next day, he picked me up on a motorcycle. I did not expect him to take me all the way to Tanjung Balau in Kota Tinggi,” she told Berita Harian.

Sha recounted that upon their arrival, the man began using obscene language and engaged in an indecent act.

He later stopped at a recreational area in Johor Bahru, where he repeated the behaviour.

Terrified by the situation, the teenager admitted she was too frightened to inform her mother.

The intimidation continued on the evening of April 19, when the suspect pressured Sha into accompanying him to a cinema, where further indecent acts were committed.

During the journey home, the situation escalated when the man drove her to an industrial estate in Seelong and attempted to force himself on her.

When Sha resisted his advances, the man demanded she reimburse him RM130 for expenses he claimed to have incurred during their outings.

To my shock, he then threatened to distribute my nude photos, which he had secretly stolen from my phone storage while it was being repaired, Sha said.

Following the extortion attempt, Sha lodged three separate police reports in Kota Tinggi, Larkin, and Kulai between May 5 and May 7.

The victim's mother, Mariah, 40, stated that the family is demanding justice to ensure that no other teenagers fall victim to similar predators. - May 19, 2026
