TWO labourers were brought before the Magistrates’ Court in Kota Bharu on Wednesday on charges of murdering a young man with learning disabilities in Kampung Binjai last month.

The accused, Muhammad Hakim Zikrullah Mohd Zamran, 25, and Mohamed Eerman Daniel Mohamed Afrizal, 27, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.

No plea was recorded from either accused as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, both men were accused of murdering 20-year-old Muhammad Zakir Fikry Mohd Zainal at Kampung Binjai, Banggu, at about 11pm on 13 April.

The pair were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and, if spared capital punishment, no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Syamsul Ikhmal Ramli, while both accused were unrepresented. The court fixed 6 July for further mention of the case.

In a separate proceeding before the Sessions Court, Muhammad Hakim Zikrullah and Mohamed Eerman Daniel, together with Mohamad Areef Mohd Zuki, 25, and Mohamad Aiman Shah Mohd Azizi, 26, were charged with knowingly concealing the alleged murder and disposing of the victim’s body.

All four pleaded not guilty before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah.

Under the charge, the accused were alleged to have jointly known about the murder of Muhammad Zakir Fikry and disposed of his body by the roadside with the intention of shielding Muhammad Hakim Zikrullah and Mohamed Eerman Daniel from legal punishment.

The alleged offence took place at about 3.30am on 14 April by the roadside in Kampung Chap Bekelam, Bachok.

They were charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution. None of the accused were represented by counsel.

The Sessions Court denied bail and fixed 25 June for mention of the case.

Local media had previously reported that Muhammad Zakir Fikry, who had learning disabilities, was believed to have died after being assaulted. - May 20, 2026
