TRAFFIC conditions across most major expressways in Malaysia remained generally smooth as of 10am today despite isolated congestion and several accidents disrupting movement along key routes.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said current traffic flow on most highways nationwide, including routes around the Klang Valley, was still manageable as travellers began moving ahead of the extended festive and school holiday period.
Assistant Engineer of LLM’s Operations and Maintenance Division, Siti Fatimah Ishak, said authorities were continuing to monitor conditions closely following reports of slower movement at several critical locations.
“However, traffic has been reported to be slow on the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) heading towards E11 from SS7 to Taman Mega and around the Gombak Toll Plaza heading eastbound,” she said.
She added that traffic congestion was also reported at the Johor Causeway in both directions as cross-border movement intensified at the Malaysia-Singapore checkpoint.
Meanwhile, LLM confirmed that two separate accidents had contributed to slower traffic flow on affected highways.
The first incident occurred at Kilometre 45.8 eastbound between Genting Sempah and Bukit Tinggi, where the emergency lane was obstructed following an accident.
A second collision was reported at Kilometre 435.8 northbound between Rawang and Sungai Buaya.
“The accident caused the middle and right lanes to be obstructed, resulting in slow-moving traffic,” Siti Fatimah said.
The latest traffic update comes amid expectations of exceptionally heavy highway movement during the Aidiladha holiday period, which coincides with the Wesak Day holiday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Birthday celebration and an extended school break.
Last Friday, LLM projected that daily traffic volume across major highways and connecting routes could reach as many as 3.3 million vehicles during peak travel days.
Senior Assistant Director of LLM’s Operations and Maintenance Division Ahmad Kamil Abdul Halim said the agency had activated 34 Smart Lane locations along emergency lanes nationwide to ease congestion and improve traffic dispersal.
The initiative involves 16 Smart Lane routes in the Central Region, eight in the Southern Region and 10 in the Northern Region.
Authorities said the temporary traffic management measures were aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and minimising congestion during one of the busiest interstate travel periods of the year. - May 24, 2026
