PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir remains the recognised Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

He warned that any attempt to remove a ruler carries serious implications for national stability, the constitutional monarchy and public order.

"For Malays and all Malaysians, the institution of the monarchy is not merely about a title, but also its dignity, sovereignty, rules and traditions. Therefore, we will continue to uphold the position, dignity and sovereignty of the Rulers.

"As things stand, we continue to recognise Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan and urge that any differing views be pursued through lawful constitutional processes without causing unnecessary public anxiety," he said.

The prime minister stressed that the government viewed the matter seriously and had conveyed its concerns to the relevant parties.

He said that any challenge to the position of a ruler must be pursued through the proper legal and constitutional channels.

Anwar also said that the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan legislative assembly to pave the way for a snap election was the best way to resolve the ongoing constitutional and political uncertainty surrounding the state's royal institution.

“The situation had created confusion and raised concerns over the proper processes governing the monarchy, and it should be resolved through legitimate constitutional channels rather than public declarations,” he added.

Earlier, there was an attempt by Negeri  Sembilan's Undang and the Tunku Besar Tampin to proclaim Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

The proclamation ceremony was held at a hotel in Melaka with the presence of Undang Jelebu Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad and Tunku Besar Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri.

Other DKU members, namely Undang Luak Johol, Datuk Muhammed Abdullah; Undang Luak Rembau, Datuk Abdul Rahim Yasin and Datuk Shahbandar Sungei Ujong, Datuk Seri Utama Badarudin Abdul Khalid, witnessed it via video conference.

Former Mentri Besar Tan Sri Rais Yatim was also present.

The "proclamation" was subsequently acknowledged by Tunku Nadzaruddin.

Before that, there was a commotion when the adat chief was prevented from meeting Tunku Nadzaruddin on the top floor of the hotel.

The situation has caused dissatisfaction among Undang Jelebu, who once again questioned the actions of the authorities who prevented them.

However, Negeri Sembilan Police Chief, Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, finally agreed and allowed the adat chief to continue the ceremony.

Earlier today, the Seremban High Court granted ad interim injunctions halting a planned special sitting of the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang Negeri Sembilan (DKU) and blocking any move to remove DKU secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin.

The injunctions were obtained by Raja Norazli and the DKU to preserve the status quo pending the disposal of legal challenges before the court.

Sources have also raised the possibility of sedition by Nadzaruddin and the others involved. – June 5, 2026
