THE Prime Minister today dismissed any talk of an increase in fuel prices, stressing that the government remains committed to protecting Malaysians from global oil shocks.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated that the Madani administration was already absorbing RM3 billion to RM4 billion monthly for fuel-related subsidies, which was expected to increase according to price surges.
"Malaysia continues to maintain one of the lowest retail fuel prices at RM1.99 per litre.
"At times, the monthly subsidy bills hit RM5 billion, and it is now between RM3 and RM4 billion following price fluctuations," he said.
On another matter, Anwar stressed that he did not postpone the dissolution of Parliament simply to defend his position as Prime Minister.
Instead, he wants to focus fully on efforts to revive the country's economy and solve the people's problems.
He said that political uncertainty and too frequent elections will only affect investor confidence and disrupt the government's efforts to attract more quality investments to the country.
"I want to focus on solving the people's problems first. Politics must be stable. I do not want politics to be used only for propaganda or maintaining positions.
"I am not postponing the election because I want to remain in power, but because I want to ensure that the country's economy continues to grow and the people benefit," he said.
Anwar said the government is now focusing on efforts to strengthen the country's economy, attract high-tech investments and improve the people's living standards without neglecting basic needs at the grassroots level.
He said Malaysia can address various challenges, including stabilising the currency, stimulating economic growth and attracting foreign investment if political stability can be maintained.
He also stressed that the Federal Government always maintains good relations with all state governments, including states governed by the opposition, because the development of the people must be given priority.
He also reminded leaders and the community to continue to be patient and steadfast in supporting the national development agenda being implemented by the Madani Government. – June 7, 2026
