FIVE State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in Johor are in the spotlight at the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) today.

This follows the clash of high-profile figures, last-minute candidate changes and a slim majority of less than 500 votes in the last PRN.

The Puteri Wangsa DUN seat is among those receiving the most attention after the incumbent, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz from Muda choose not to defend the seat.

Muda fielded Sharifah Rashifa Aljunied instead, while the other candidates are Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) former Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Teow Chia Ling from MCA in a five-cornered contest.

In the Bukit Batu state seat, incumbent Chiong Sen Sern from Pakatan Harapan (PH-PKR) defended the seat with a slim majority in Johor of only 137 votes, facing a five-cornered contest involving Barisan Nasional (BN-MIC), Bersama, Muda and independent candidates.

Meanwhile, the Skudai state seat is also in the spotlight following the decision of former incumbent Marina Ibrahim from DAP not to seek re-election.

PH is betting on Kartiyaini Jeyapalan in a four-cornered contest against BN, PSM and Bersama.

Two other nominal majority seats are also of concern, namely the Bukit Pasir state seat, where Johor State Exco Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh (BN-Umno), defends a majority of 198 votes against Muhd Najib Lep (PH-Amanah) and the Parit Yaani state seat, where Datuk Mohamad Najib Samuri (BN-Umno), who narrowly won with a majority of 294 votes, faces a challenge from Md Ezam Md Taslim (PH-Amanah). – July 11, 2026
