THE Election Commission (EC) is optimistic that the voter turnout for the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) this Saturday will be between 72 and 75 per cent based on the response and the current campaigns.
EC Chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, said the expectation was made following positive developments throughout the campaign period, as well as confidence that supporters of each party will come out to fulfil their respective responsibilities.
"For this Saturday, based on the intense campaigns in Negeri Sembilan, we believe that many supporters will come out to vote.
"We expect the voter turnout to be around 72 to 75 per cent. God willing, we will all pray and hope that all voters will be able to come out to vote and fulfill their respective responsibilities," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after visiting the early voting centre at the Port Dickson District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Also present was Port Dickson District Police Chief, Superintendent Maslan Udin.
Earlier, Ramlan informed that as of 10 am, the voter turnout for the early voting had reached 34.26 per cent, while the EC expected the percentage to exceed 90 per cent by the end of the voting process.
According to him, the target was made after taking into account several factors, including the presence of security personnel who no longer live together due to divorce and several other constraints that made it difficult to reach 100 per cent.
"However, we hope that the percentage can exceed 90 per cent because during the previous early voting in Johor, we managed to record 94 per cent," he said.
He said that 38 early voting centres involving 70 channels were opened throughout Negeri Sembilan to enable 16,467 early voters, consisting of military and police personnel, to fulfil their responsibilities.
"We have excluded postal votes, which included 5,591 military voters and 281 police personnel,” he said.
He said that all polling centres would be closed in stages, namely 17 centres at noon, three centres at 2 pm and the remaining 18 centres at 5 pm.
In a similar development, Ramlan said that throughout the campaign period so far, the EC had received 206 complaints regarding election offences, most of which involved minor issues such as campaign materials.
"In general, everything went smoothly, orderly and peacefully.
"There are several minor cases that have been resolved. I congratulate the people of Negeri Sembilan for helping to ensure that the democratic process takes place well and in an orderly manner," he said. – July 28, 2026
