THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has seized a mobile phone and SIM card as part of an investigation into a Facebook post allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The regulator said it had opened an investigation paper into content posted by the account “Vikke Lee”, which was suspected of containing grossly offensive material and touching on sensitivities involving race, religion and royalty (3R).
A release issued today said a statement had been recorded at the Sri Petaling police station to assist the investigation.
One mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
MCMC said it viewed seriously the spread of online content suspected of containing false information or insulting the royal institution, particularly material that could affect social harmony.
The Commission urged the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from creating or sharing content that violates the law. - November 3, 2026
