PERIKATAN Nasional's (PN) continued legal standing as a political coalition will face another court test on Feb 22 next year when the Court of Appeal hears the Registrar of Societies' (ROS) challenge to a High Court order suspending its deregistration.
The appeal centres on an interim stay granted by High Court judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad on Oct 22, which temporarily halted enforcement of the ROS decision to revoke PN's registration.
The Court of Appeal has directed both parties to file their written submissions by Jan 25, 2027, with case management fixed for Feb 9 ahead of the hearing.
PN lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali confirmed the dates to The Edge.
The interim stay preserves PN's legal status pending the outcome of its judicial review application challenging the ROS decision.
The dispute arose after ROS issued a notification revoking the coalition's registration, raising questions over its ability to operate legally and field candidates under its official logo.
Leaders of PN's component parties subsequently filed a judicial review application seeking to have the revocation notices declared unlawful and set aside.
The High Court is scheduled to hear that application on Dec 7.
In granting the interim stay, Azizan said the order was necessary to preserve the status quo and prevent irreparable administrative prejudice to PN pending the final disposal of the legal challenge. - November 4, 2026
