JOHOR BARU – The Johor government is in the midst of helping more than 1,000 homeless people secure employment, said an exco.
State Investment, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Izhar Ahmad said 50% have been categorised as “transit homeless”, or those with jobs in Singapore but are unable to enter the republic due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
He said 30% of the homeless people identified are addicts and 20% have “family problems”.
They will be placed in a special shelter, he said, after which efforts will be made to find them jobs.
“We want to gather them in one shelter, look at each individual’s capabilities and match them with the suitable positions,” he told reporters after launching state water supplier Ranhill SAJ’s Health Day programme here today.
He said the job-matching initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Welfare Department, Human Capital Unit and JobsMalaysia. – Bernama, September 27, 2020
