MIRI – Sarawak’s State Disaster Management Committee has imposed a conditional movement control order on all districts in the state due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
Committee chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas said that the whole state will be placed under the CMCO from January 18 to January 31.
Sibu has already been placed under the movement control order; Miri and Kuching are now under CMCO, while the other towns are placed under the recovery movement control order.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuching today, Uggah said the RMCO has to be tightened along with the CMCO, as the infection rate has surged statewide.
“We are also putting new standard operating procedures to control gatherings and movements of people, including in longhouses,” he said.
Uggah said the state saw 69 new Covid-19 cases today, of which Sibu has the most new cases with 30, followed by Kuching (10), Bintulu (nine), Kanowit (five), and Miri (four), with several other districts having one or two new ones.
Uggah said many of the new cases are related to the Pasai Cluster in Sibu which was sparked by a funeral ceremony at a longhouse in Rumah Langi.
Sibu Hospital now has 524 Covid-19 positive cases. Miri Hospital has 199, while Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching has 108 cases, and Bintulu Hospital 25. – The Vibes, January 16, 2021
