MIRI – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced an additional RM81 million in allocation to Sarawak to fight Covid-19 as infections continue to surge with 156 new cases today.
State disaster management committee chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas said the prime minister had informed him of the additional allocations from the federal government today.
“The RM81 million will be used to set up a Covid-19 test laboratory in Kapit to handle the cases there. The money will also be used to prepare more quarantine facilities throughout the state.
“Today, we recorded 156 new positive cases, so the increase is still at a fast rate,” he said at a press conference from his headquarters in Kuching.
Sibu today remained the worst Covid-19 hotspot in Sarawak with reportedly 65 new cases.
Miri has 28 new cases, while Kanowit has 24, Beluru 15, Sarikei 10, Sebauh three, two each in Kuching, Bintulu, and Subis, and and one each in Dalat, Belaga, Meradong, Samarahan and Daro.
There were no new deaths today, keeping the death toll at 21. Total positive cases now stand at 2,367. – The Vibes, January 19, 2021
