MIRI – Sarawak saw another death being confirmed as due to Covid-19 here as the number of infections continue to rise statewide today.
The state disaster management committee secretariat said that the latest fatality from the pandemic in Sarawak was a 51-year-old local man.
“He was admitted to Miri Hospital on January 18 while suffering from breathing difficulties.
“He died on January 20 at 4.50pm and his death is confirmed (today) to be due to Covid-19 even though he also had serious kidney ailments,” the secretariat said in its latest media statement.
The secretariat extended its condolences to the deceased’s family members and cautioned the people that the rate of infections is still very high.
Today, 132 new positive cases were reported statewide.
Sibu has the highest number of new cases at 62, followed by Kanowit (40), Bintulu (12), Miri (five), Kuching (three), and one each in Dalat, Lubok Antu, Serian, and Selangau.
There are still eight active clusters statewide.
Currently, Sibu Hospital is packed with 894 Covid-19 patients, Miri Hospital with 256, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching with 132, Bintulu Hospital 74, and one at Limbang Hospital.
The secretariat urged everyone in the state to play their role in containing the pandemic by strictly obeying all the standard operating procedures put in place.
