MIRI – Sarawak authorities are in a race against time to sanitise more than 100 native longhouses where Covid-19 cases have been detected.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman today said several teams are being deployed statewide for these operations.
“Our teams are going to all the longhouses that had Covid-19 patients, prioritising those that had outbreaks and clusters,” he told reporters today.
His department is liaising closely with personnel from the state Health Department and local authorities as well, he added.
Khirudin said units deployed from the district stations are equipped with the necessary equipment to disinfect the interiors and exteriors of the longhouses.
The personnel involved are also in personal protective gear for their safety.
In the past two weeks, there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in longhouses.
The worst-affected are the Iban longhouses in the districts of Sibu, Kanowit, Betong, Sri Aman, Bakong and others. – The Vibes, January 28, 2021
