BELURAN – A 47-year-old Indonesian man was arrested by the police for allegedly molesting a 3-year-old girl.

The toddler belonged to his neighbour living at the same hostel at Sungai Sabah estate.

Beluran district police chief, Spt Kasim Muda said that the suspect worked as a security guard at the oil palm estate.

According to the police report, the victim who did not have any clothes on her at the time, was playing at the lawn of the hostel when the suspect asked her to enter his (the suspect’s) room.

“The victim’s mother was suspicious after she saw her daughter leaving the suspect’s room without clothes on.

“She checked the victim’s body and found slimy liquid on her body.

“She suspected that her daughter had been raped and lodged a police report immediately.

“However, upon investigation, the police found no evidence of rape, and believe it to be a case of molestation,” he said.

Kasim said that the victim will be sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan for further examination.

The suspect was arrested for further investigation under Section 14A of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Section 14 deals with “physical sexual assault on a child” and brings with it a jail term of not more than 20 years, and shall also be liable to whipping. – The Vibes, February 1, 2021
