MIRI – Police today arrested four security guards for allegedly assaulting a plantation worker over the weekend.
The guards were detained after a police report was lodged by the victim, who works on the plantation in Niah district, some 120km south of the city here.
“The victim claimed he was beaten up by the security guards,” said Miri police chief Hakemal Hawari.
“We are investigating the case as criminal assault.”
The victim, in his report, said he was attacked by the four over work-related issues.
He said he was kicked, punched and beaten with rods, resulting in him sustaining injuries all over his body, and that the attackers also recorded a video of the incident on a handphone.
It is common for plantation owners in Sarawak to employ unregistered security guards.
The four suspects are being held at the Miri central police station lock-up pending further investigations. – The Vibes, February 9, 2021
